Katherine's Other Grandpa - Dr. Ralph Burde
You've seen so many Facebook pictures of me with my granddaughter, but here's a picture I like even more. A lot more.
My daughter's father-in-law Ralph Burde and his family are finding out first-hand how difficult life is with Alzheimer's disease. In support of Ralph, I hope to make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer's by participating in the 2009 Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk® in Grand Rapids, MI. I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support, so that great people like Ralph, his caregivers and loved ones can get the assistance they need to help them through their incredibly difficult and uncertain situation.
It's been at least 20 years since I asked my friends and family to support me in a walk, and I didn't think I would ever ask again. I know that you all support many important causes, some with very special connections to you and yours. So I promise that I won't ask for your help again, whether or not you decide to contribute.
Currently more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's, and 78 million baby boomers like me are at risk today – unless we find a way to change the course of the disease. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's.
But more importantly, help the Association assist Ralph, his family and others like them, through care, education and other support.
